Status of gauge coupling unification.

I give some remarks on the historical development and current status of the conjecture that all fundamental forces come together into a single grand unified theory. In the process it is argued that the results from the LHC along with some basic theory concepts may reasonably increase one's confidence in the viability of grand unification.
