Informal Kadanoff Seminar: Dual theories of the vortex lattice, Dung Nguyen, Xuan from Brown University
The starting point of our investigation is the effective field theory of a two-dimensional vortex crystal derived in Moroz et al. SciPost 5, 039 (2018). Its low-energy degrees of freedom are the dynamical $u(1)$ gauge field $a_\mu$ (which via the boson-vortex duality encodes the physics of the coarse-grained superfluid degree of freedom) and coarse-grained displacements of vortices $u^i$ from their equilibrium crystal positions. I will derive the dual theories of the vortex lattice, and show the transformation explicitly from vortex lattice to Wigner lattice in the dual theories language. We also demonstrate the fractionic physics of the dual theories and physical interpretations from the vortex lattice. I will discuss the melting transition of the vortex lattice briefly.
